We have proposed the modeling method for the retaining wall with backfill soil using a multi degree-of-freedom system and multiple springs and dashpots when a base-isolated structure collides into a retaining wall. However, simpler modeling is desired in a preliminary structural design. In this paper, we propose the method to reduce a multi degree-of-freedom system of a retaining wall part to an equivalent single degree-of-freedom system, one spring and dashpot. Then, we verify the validity and effectiveness of the single degree-of-freedom system by comparing the lateral resistance of the retaining wall part and the building collision response in both systems. © 2021 Architectural Institute of Japan.
