Wellbore fracture regularity of inclined wells in anisotropic formation under different in-situ stress states

Based on the analysis of anisotropic elastic properties of rocks, a wellbore fracture pressure prediction model of inclined wellbore considering anisotropy was proposed, and the influences of wellbore trajectory, bedding occurrence and anisotropy on wellbore fracture pressure were analyzed for typical in-situ stress states. The results show that the fracture pressure along the direction of maximum horizontal in-situ stress is the lowest for the normal and strike-slip faulting state. After considering the influence of anisotropy, the fracture pressure decreases overall, and the reduction ratio under normal and strike-slip faulting states are 3.32% and 3.00% respectively. The fracture pressure along the direction of the maximum horizontal in-situ stress is the largest for the reverse fault state. After considering the influence of anisotropy, the fracture pressure increases overall, and the growing ratio under reverse faulting state is 3.34%. When the anisotropy coefficients are the same, the bedding occurrence has a significant effect on the fracture pressure. The low-angle bedding leads to the decrease of fracture pressure for the normal faulting state, while it results in the increase of the fracture pressure for the strike-slip and reverse faulting states. Compared with the normal and strike-slip faulting states, the bedding occurrence under the reverse faulting state has a greater influence on the fracture pressure, and the reduction ratio of fracture pressure is 13.15%. © 2022, Central South University Press.
