Chemical production in the United States continued to expand in 2019 despite protectionist trade policies and a global manufacturing slowdown. Indeed, while many U.S. manufacturing sectors declined last year, the chemical industry remained a positive contributor to growth. American chemical makers, thanks to low-cost energy and feedstocks, maintain a clear competitive advantage in many key product areas.
