Aiming at the problems of low end products and low end manufacturing mode in the domestic machine tool industry, to prevent the more extreme stranglehold behaviors from western countries, firstly, the existing problems in terms of basic research capabilities, independent innovation capabilities, manufacturing capabilities, enterprise management level and building brand awareness were analyzed. The necessity of the transformation of domestic machine tools from low-end manufacturing mode to high-end manufacturing mode in terms of improving the technological level and performance of domestic machine tools, providing the high-performance machine tools for high-end e-quipment manufacturing industry, optimizing the overall layout of the domestic machine tool industry, improving the economic efficiency of the domestic machine tool enterprises were elaborated. The experience and lessons learned of the rapid development of the domestic automobile industry were mainly discussed. Based on analyzing the difference between machine tool industry and automobile industry, comprehensive analyzed the available for reference from the development of automobile industry in terms of R&D capability, manufacturing capacity, standardization level, quality control, quality of talents were expounded, which laid a solid foundation of theory and practice for the transformation of domestic machine tools to high-end manufacturing mode. © 2023 CIMS.
