The generation of a digital master as part of a product development implies, that engineers need to make several decisions. Especially in the derivation of a digital twin, which acts as digital representation of a real product entity, decision have to be made regarding the modeled system aspects, possible business models and much more. The developer and its consequences for a digital master and digital twin are discussed in this publication by considering a battery for vehicle applications as case study. © 2020 Carl Hanser Verlag.
