The distribution of water resources in China exhibits significant spatial-temporal heterogeneity. Thus,constructing large dams and reservoirs is indispensable for rationally deploying water resources to ensure China’s water security and prevent water-related disasters. Such infrastructure is also fundamental for harnessing renewable hydropower resources to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and achieve the carbon-neutral goal.
