Gastrointestinal angiodysplasias are vascular abnormalities that can lead to transfusion-dependent anemia despite endoscopic treatment. Although the results of a meta-analysis suggest that the somatostatin analogue octreotide could reduce the risk of bleeding, some bias can be detected in the studies. Goltstein et al. therefore wanted to re-examine safety and efficacy and initiated a randomized controlled trial.
