摘要
The cathedral chapter of Vienna, founded at the end of the royal reign of Charlemagne, presents many southern features. Although it quickly established itself as a strong and influential institution, it represents an isolated case on a province-wide basis. Furthermore, the archiepiscopal city includes many abbeys. The most important and prestigious of them, Saint-Pierre and Saint-Andre-la-Bas, hosted canons for several decades before returning to the monastic status. These institutional changes and porosity of the world of monks with the one of the canons also existed in Romans. This archiepiscopal abbey, founded around 840 on the very edge of the diocese of Vienna, definitely became a collegiate church around 950 after a long and chaotic process of transformation.
