HCI and AI in Industry: Current and Future

In this panel, composed of leading members of the field from industry, we consider impacts of AI technologies, and how HCI impacts developments in AI. Our focus on industry recognizes the many ways in which AIs underlie familiar and novel product and service experiences, and how HCI practitioners ensure that human concerns such as privacy, safety, diversity, equity and inclusion are prioritized. We articulate key areas of AI impact, and detail problem areas that the discipline of HCI can assist with. In discussion between panelists and the audience, we will focus mainly on those areas: namely, the invisible "jagged edge" of AI-supported human-computer interaction; the impact of training and user input datasets in driving outputs; and concerns about AI applied to personal data. We further explore the implications of all three of these for HCI as a field, and the vital impact of HCI on AI.
