This essay probes into the relationship between Silvio D'Arzo (a pseudonym of Ezio Comparoni, Reggio Emilia, 1920-1952) and Neorealism, considering the author's own comments concerning the literary movement and, above all, comparing in detail his writing with that of other authors linked to Neorealism. Whilst the latter developed, D'Arzo went very much his own way, hardly nearing the movement. Rather, he resembles those authors who interpreted the poetics of Neorealism in an unconventional manner, drawing on it freely both on a thematic and stylistic level.
