Myths and misconceptions about intelligence Introduction

The importance of human intelligence in adapting to everyday life is well established. However, the notion of intelligence is the victim of numerous myths that obscure its understanding. In this thematic issue, we address three myths: that children with high IQs are often at risk of academic and psychological failure, the myth of multiple intelligences in Gardner's model (1996) and the myth that IQ tests are culturally biased. The aim of this text is to give a brief overview of the situation, and to highlight the errors in the reasoning of those who promote these myths.
