ENG Towards an increasingly environmental and ecologist television

Television has traditionally been the main source for citizens to find out about news related to the environment and ecology. This work reviews some previous scientific works that demonstrated this and contrasts them with the most up-to-date data, extracted from the Environmental Profile in Spain (2021), the Survey of Social Perception of Science and Technology of FECYT (2022) and the Observatory of Information Quality on Television (OCITV) (2023). The results not only indicate that the Internet has surpassed television as a source of environmental information; in addition, new ecological themes discussed in current television programs are classified, as well as their peculiarities and impact on citizens. Finally, the work points out some keys that could enable better, more informative television, without losing the entertainment bias and allowing it to compete with the Internet -websites, blogs and social networks-.
