Post-Structuralist Textual Analysis of Historical Narrative

The article analyzes the theoretical aspects of the application of post-structuralist textual analysis, proposed by R. Barth, in the study of historiography. It is shown that direct borrowing of post-structuralist practices is unproductive, since they imply relativism in the interpretation of the text. The possibility of restricting Barth's approach to the structuralist concept of code is considered. This code must be found within a cultural situation that chronologically corresponded to the time of the creation of the historiographical source. Taking into account the concept of code, the application of post-structural analysis makes it possible to obtain information that is of interest from the point of view of historical science.
