An experimental study on the combustion characteristics of a self-developed low-pressure air assisted direct injection aviation kerosene engine was carried out. A range of suitable fuel to air injection interval and air injection cut-off timing angle were obtained to optimize combustion. A fuel quantity control strategy based on dynamic excess air ratio was designed and the optimization for combustion stability was verified. The results show that with the increase of fuel to air interval time, the average peak combustion pressure increases first and then decreases. The best combustion performance occurs at 3 ms. The air injection cut-off timing angle near 180° CA before the top dead center is conducive to the preparation of mixture and the stability of combustion in the cylinder. The fuel volume control strategy that dynamically changes the excess air coefficient is beneficial to the smooth transition of the excess air coefficient, and the combustion stability and the average indicated pressure are improved. © 2022, Editorial Office of the Transaction of CSICE.
