New Material Science and Technology Policy of Japan and Its Enlightenment to China

Materials are important base for social development, while innovation of new materials is a key symbol of a country’s scientific and technological development level. The new materials of Japan occupy a high share in the world and are the source of competitive advantage of Japanese industries. In recent years, in order to maintain the powerful status and win the competitive edge of materials science in the new round of scientific and technological changes, Japanese government has launched a series of scientific policies and plans in promoting the scientific and technological innovation of new materials, especially scientific programs of data-driven material acceleration platform and intelligent R& D mode to greatly improve the efficiency of new material discovery. This paper focuses on Japan’s new material science and technology strategy, the relevant measures, projectsand its effect in recent years. The characteristics of Japanese government’s support for material science and technology are summarized, and the enlightenment for China’s new material deployment is also put forward. © 2023 Cailiao Daobaoshe/ Materials Review.
