Achievemens and challenges for a safe road system

Since the creation of the General Directorate for Traffic (DGT) in 1959, the leadership in the mobility management and in road safety advances have been part of its identity. The continuous improvement of the citizens' life quality in roads was supported by the introduction of technology in the tools that DGT uses everyday. In this article there is a revision of the origins of Intelligent Transport Systems and also of the group of measures aimed at improving traffic flow and safety until today. © 2019 Asociacion Espanola de la Carretera.
