Determination of Currents in Flat Superconductors in a Perpendicular Magnetic Field

Using Maxwell's equations, the eddy currents generated by a time varying magnetic field in a conductor with a user defined current-voltage characteristic have been calculated for thin strip and disc geometries. Current distributions within the sample and hence the magnetic moment have been obtained for simulated field sweeps and magnetic relaxation experiments. Using this data the validity of relating dH/dt (during field sweeps) and dM/dt (during relaxations) to the electric field, E, and M to the current, j, has been investigated.
