STUDY OF THE ANGULAR-DISTRIBUTION OF HEAVY FRAGMENTS PRODUCED IN THE INTERACTION OF 58 GEV O-16 IONS WITH A 1-CM THICK CU-TARGET

摘要
The angular distribution of heavy fragments produced in the interaction of 58 GeV O-16 ions within a 1 cm thick Cu target has been studied using CR-39 plastic track detectors. Similar studies using the same experimental set-up and 72 GeV Ar-40 ions have been published previously. We observed also in this experiment (58 GeV O-16), that (0.13 +/- 0.07) % of the total number of primary O-16 ions are emitted into a forward angle 3-degrees < THETA < 45-degrees. These fragments are likely to be relativistic heavy fragments carbon (Z = 6) and nitrogen (Z = 7).
