摘要
The successful use of superconducting magnets for accelerators started with the Energy Saver/Tevatron at Fermilab, Batavia, USA, designed for 1 TeV proton energy and put into operation in 1983. The proton ring of HERA at DESY, Hamburg, Germany, completed in 1990 with 0.82 TeV nominal energy has started high energy physics experiments this summer. Both rings contain more than 1000 superconducting magnets arranged in a tunnel with a circumference of about 6.3 km. The paper summarises design concepts and experiences gained during operation with main emphasis on magnet performance, magnet protection and cryogenic behaviour.
