摘要
The brightness temperature of pulsars is so high that induced scattering by surrounding plasma can be important even when the Thomson optical depth is small. We investigate this effect in the relativistic winds that are believed to flow from pulsars. If the Crab Nebula is powered by a wind of electrons (or positrons) from the pulsar, then the fact that the radio pulses are not suppressed by induced scattering suggests that the wind's Lorentz factor exceeds ~104 © Royal Astronomical Society.
