Hereditary alterations of coagulation natural inhibitors and fibrinolytic system components are related to thrombotic disease. This review is intended to clarify the different methodological posibilities to determine functional activity and concentration of antithrombin III, protein C, protein S, heparin cofactor II, histidine-rich glycoprotein, lipoprotein a, fibrinogen, plasminogen, tissue-type plasminogen activator plasminogen activator inhibitor and homocisteine. In all cases is convenient to start the study of the functional activity of the given. protein and, if it is altered the study should be completed with an, immunological quantitation or another methodology that allows to obtain more information about the alteration.
