Aim: The objective of this study is to determine the evolution of infant tetanus mortality in Spain, with special reference to neonatal tetanus. The study covers from 1951 to 2009, the latest year with available data. Methods: The collected data have been taken from publications and The National Statistics Institute website (INE). Results: Results show a declining trend in infant mortality from tetanus over the studied years and until year 1982, after which more cases are not recorded. Conclusions: The mortality from tetanus in Spain which has been approximately one third of all deaths from tetanus, has declined to almost disappear, due to the childhood immunization campaigns.
