INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN THE AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY COMPANIES FROM MERIDA STATE: PROSPECTS FOR THE FIRST DECADE OF XXI CENTURY

The information system is one of the systems which is at the service of the company based on the attainment of its objectives and therefore it is not independent from these ones. The aforementioned system is in charge of providing the necessary information to establish the responsibilities of the different duties and processes in the company so that it can reach the goals set or continue with an established plan. In this context, the general aim of this research is to 'analyze the information systems in the automotive industry companies in Libertador municipality, Merida state for the five-year period 2005-2010'. The research is considered to be a documentary and field research; it is documentary because it gathers secondary resources in order to obtain some data, and it is considered a field research due to the fact that some data was gathered directly in the field of study through different techniques such as questionnaires and interviews. As part of the result, we found that most of the companies use computer resources. However, there is a smaller but important proportion of companies which has neither knowledge of computer skills nor knowledge of software operation.
