SERVICES SECTOR IN THE TRANSITION PROCESS OF THE SLOVAK ECONOMY

The article deals with some meaningful elements of changes in the services position in the Slovak economy that are connected with the transition to market conditions. Starting from general characteristics of the Slovak national economy's evolution during the period 1989 - 1992, the attention is further given to interrelations between the services sector and other sectors, and to changes inside of this sector, including comparisons with the experience of developed countries. The author specifies a new role of services from the theoretical point of view, their functions in the reproduction process, and connections with the property relations changes, changes of the organizational forms, legal and institutional conditions. From the methodological point of view there are emphasized several issues connected with new measuring of the services participation in the GDP creation, related to implementation of national accounting and to a new clasification of industrial branches. There are also analyzed changes in services supply and demand, coming from application of the reform steps. A special attention is paid to the role of business services in the transition process, and to their development in the Slovak republic
