ESTABLISHING HYPERBOLIC GREEN-FUNCTIONS VIA LEIBNIZ RULE

Techniques from the theory of ordinary differential equations are used to characterize fundamental singularities for the wave equation. These lead not only to familiar examples such as the Riemann function, but also to symmetric singularities corresponding to self-adjoint boundary value problems.
