School Grammar and Language Policy in Argentina: An Analysis of Gramatica de la lengua castellana (1893), by Baldmar Dobranich and Ricardo Monner Sans

In the field of the history of grammar as defined in Linguistic Historiography, several papers have been published analysing the relevance of school grammars as a space for the reformulation and dissemination of grammar traditions. Continuing with this task, this paper aims to analyse Gramatica de la lengua castellana (1893) by Baldmar Dobranich and Ricardo Monner Sans, paying special attention to (a) how this school grammar reflects different linguistic theories and trends in the study of grammar in Spanish and (b) how it encodes the complex political and social networks underlying the national language debate in Argentina in the early twentieth century.
