EDITORIAL ANALYSIS OF THE ELECTRONIC JOURNAL PRAJDZISVET SPECIALIZING IN TRANSLATED LITERATURE

The general development of the Internet has also facilitated the growth of online media. Today numerous periodicals have a "copy" on the Internet, and some of them exist exclusively online. Currently, the electronic journal PrajdziSvet is the only periodical devoted completely to literary translations in Belarus. The idea first appeared in 2008, and the first issue was published in May 2009. The creators and editors are a group of young translators, former participants of the translation workshop organized by Andrej Khadanovich, a Belarusian poet and translator. The aim of the article is to analyze the concept of the electronic journal PrajdziSvet. The aim includes the following tasks: (a) to evaluate the journal title, (b) to analyze its typological features (publication type, intended purpose, readers address, frequency of issues), (c) to analyze its content (rubrication, introductory article, genres of translations), (d) to analyze its appearance (style and decoration, layout and usability). The journal title underscores the essence of the translator's job, as the translator travels the world both in virtual and physical reality in search of interesting works, and then attempts to relay the heart of the work in another language so well that no one suspects it has been a translation in the first place. The aims of the journal are to unite professional and amateur Belarusian translators in one place; to broaden Belarusian cultural space through inclusion of foreign fiction; to raise the level of professional translations into Belarusian; and to create a Belarusian school of translation. The journal publishes translations from Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Lithuanian, Spanish, English, German, Danish, Swedish, Portuguese, Italian, Japanese, Czech, Hebrew, Slovak and other languages. The PrajdziSvet electronic journal has a stylish and highly comfortable website. Issues are not yet being published at a constant pace, which is likely explained by a lack of resources to release issues quarterly. There are also errors in page layout and proofing. However, the journal covers a wide range of material concerning source languages, genres and themes, which is evidence of its significant potential for future development. PrajdziSvet is unique in Belarusian media space. The journal has good opportunities for further development, and we hope that the creative team will seize them.
