Determination of intensities of the B-1 Pi(u)->X(1)Sigma(+)(g) band system of Na-2 by densitometry on photographic plate. Comparison with theoretical results and experimental results obtained from photoelectric devices

The photoelectric recording of the spectra is the usual method for determining fluorescence intensities. This, however, requires the previous calibration of the response of the photoelectric device to correct the intensity of the primary spectra. For this correction a lamp with a well known spectral irradiance is normally used. In this work a procedure for obtaining calibrated experimental intensities on photographic plate is described. This procedure is based on the sensitometric properties of photographic material. A comparison between radiative transition probabilities (theoretical values) obtained in this work and our experimental intensity values is shown for the most intense fluorescence series of a sample of sodium vapor, induced by 4765 and 4880 Angstrom argon-ion laser lines. Also this comparison is made with corrected experimental values obtained by using photoelectrical redording. In both cases, a good agreement with their corresponding theoretical terms is observed.
