THE PRESSURE-DEPENDENCE OF RAMAN-ACTIVE LIBRON MODES IN CRYSTALLINE C-60

摘要
The pressure dependence of the Raman active intermolecular modes of crystalline C-60 has been determined up to 15.2 kbar. Two distinct librational modes are seen to shift to higher frequency with increasing pressure at the rates of 0.37 cm(-1)/kbar and 0.52 cm(-1)/kbar. Comparison of the pressure induced shifts with the temperature evolution of the libron modes allows the latter to be separated into phonon-population and volume driven effects which reveal that the libron mode frequencies contain a strong dependence on the librational amplitudes.
