NUMERICAL MODELING OF HEAT-TRANSFER AND SOLIDIFICATION OF CONTINUOUSLY CAST BILLETS

摘要
A simple model for evaluating the effect of changes in the heat transfer properties between mould and strand in a continuous caster is presented. The model is used to evaluate the heat transfer conditions for low alloy steels with two different carbon levels, and the results are compared to investigations of continuously cast billets. It is shown that the heat transfer conditions in the mould vary considerably between steels with different solidification mode (primary solidification as delta-ferrite or as austenite), which is dependent on their carbon content.
