In this article are revealed the results of a research on arts education-plastic and musical-carried out within the framework of the program of practices in development cooperation projects that the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU), Spain, offers to its students. The same was carried out in the department of Leon, Nicaragua, in collaboration with Leonekin, NGO working in the mentioned country, and in which development have participated two schoolteaching professors and a primary education specialty student, who made her traineeship at Leon. The research objective was to promote the knowledge and training in arts education in line with the challenges in the proposed Arts Education, Culture and Citizenship program, from the Educational Goals 2021 (IEO, 2008, p. 129). In particular, this was to learn about the situation of arts education in the schools of the department of Leon to be able to facilitate this information to the Nicaraguan teachers and the students of the degree of teacher training at the UPV/EHU. There were showed the results of the surveys of 216 students about their visual and musical worlds, and the results of interviews with the teachers of four primary education centers. It is noteworthy the large presence that the television series and the international music have on the lives of the students as opposed to the apparent lack of interest in the << art worship >> that is not part of their imaginary significant. Also, there is a clear need to interconnect the two worlds, the pedagogy school and the cultural.
