INCIDENCE OF MYCOBACTERIAS OTHER THAN MYCOBACTERIA TUBERCULOSIS

Between 1.1.1975 and 1.10.1990, 37,957 samples (sputum and bronchial washings) have been collected. Cultures were positive for Mycobacterias tuberculosis in 1,525 cases with an annuel rate ate 4,03 % steady over the year (2,92-5,05 %). Cultures were positive for Mycobacterias other than tuberculosis in 1,059 cases (2,7 %). Incidence increases, going from 0,6 % to 4,16 % of cultures: -isolation of M. Gordonae and M. Flavescens has been steadily rising: -isolation of M. Kansasii and M. Avium has been rising with the same slope until 1984, then with a sharp increase in relation with AIDS. Clinical relevance of these results for a diagnosis of mycobacterial disease is reviewed.
