SHOOT-REDIFFERENTIATION FROM INVITRO CULTIVATED LEAF AND LEAF BASE EXPLANTS IN SUGAR-BEET (BETA-VULGARIS L VAR ALTISSIMA, DOELL)

At present the vegetative reproduction of sugarbeet is carried out successfully from flower-bud. It would be important to develop new propagation methods. The tissue-culture procedure published in this paper makes the more frequent shoot induction possible by leaf, leaf base explante, so a new propagation method is given for the practical plant-breeding. The following conclusions can be drawn based on the results: Transfer of sugarbeet genotypes is optimum after 21 days (3 weeks) as it is shown in Figure 1. In the first tissue culture trials relative low (16, 07%) frequency of plant regeneration can be observed, both with MS and B5 nutrient media. Most shoots were differentiated on both media at concentrations of 1 mg/1 BAP with all the three genotypes. Comparing the bud-induction of explanted leaf and leaf base there were numerous differences. Organogenesis in big proportion was found also in this case at a concentration of B5 + 1 mg/1 BAP + 1 mg/1 TIBA. The shoot induction of leaf base was 58, 71%. Micropropagation of sugarbeet by leaf and leaf base explants was successful in case of genotype M/15/3
