THE INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF A SCIENCE OF DEMOCRACY IN THE PROCESS OF DEMOCRATIZATION

The study analyzes the establishment of political science in Hungary before and after system transformation and democratization. The development of the discipline in research and teaching, the Association of Political Scientists, and the role of political science in the process of democratization are discussed. Political science in Hungary is mainly concentrated on the capital Budapest, but there are some attempts and initiatives to establish it on medium size universities in Miskolc, Szeged and Debrecen. The analysis of the communist past and the integration of the new Hungarian political science in the Western development are seen as the main tasks by the author.
