More than a Decade Past UNESCO's Adoption of the Universal Declaration of Bioethics and Human Rights

More than 11 years have passed since the acceptance of the Universal Declaration of Bioethics and Human Rights. Bioethics as a science does not have more than 46 years of existence. From historian's point of view, Bioethics is new, which makes the affirmation that it belongs to history difficulty. However, its expansion and consolidation in almost every continent has been very fast, and that explains its recognition and legitimization through this Declaration by a UN organism, as is UNESCO. This article desires to bring to memory, in first place, the text of the Declaration, highlighting its points of greatest transcendence; secondly, what has happened with the comprehension of bioethics in these decades, and, in third place, bring forth the contributions of the documents in the time since its edition and its possible repercussion on our continent, but especially in Chile.
