The Michelson-Morley experiment uses the same method as in the Young's double-slit interference experiment to calculate the amount of inference fringe shift and reach a situation where the calculation results do not agree with the observed experimental results. In this paper, the difference of the light paths in the M-M experiment and Young's experiment is analyzed through number-shape combination method. Because of the difference, the use of the calculation method in Young's experiment for the calculation in the M-M experiment is inappropriate. And then, an improved calculation method for the M-M experiment is proposed, and the improved calculation method provides a calculation result in agreement with the observed experiment result in the M-M experiment.
