ADSORPTION OF PROPYL ALCOHOL ON A RENEWABLE POLYCRYSTALLINE CADMIUM ELECTRODE

摘要
The potentials of zero charge of a polycrystalline cadmium electrode that could be renewed by cutting (the RCE) were determined in dilute fluoride and sulfate solutions by electric double-layer differential capacitance measurements. The experimental data obtained could be adequately described in terms of Stern-Grahame theory. It was shown that minor differences in the adsorption parameters of propyl alcohol at the RCE between sulfate and fluoride solutions are due to salting-out effects and to a joint adsorption of sulfate ions and alcohol molecules. The RCE differs from a polished electrode in that it exhibits lower phi(N), GAMMA(m), higher B0 and a different sign of beta, which is attributed to stronger interaction between the functional group and the homogeneous, amorphous surface of the RCE.
