摘要
This communication focuses on the generalisation of chiral media, the general bi-isotropic media. The electric and magnetic co- and cross-polarizabilities of a bi-isotropic sphere are derived and using these, the generalised Maxwell-Garnett formulae follow for the effective material parameters of a mixture where this type of spheres are embedded in an isotropic background material. In addition to permittivity, permeability, and chirality, the fourth effective parameter, nonreciprocity appears.
