DETECTING CLOSTRIDIUM-PERFRINGENS BY THE IMPEDANCE METHOD

The normal method of detecting Clostridium perfringens takes at least 48 hours with the confirmatory reactions. When using the impedance method with a modified TSC medium (TSC-LP broth or TSC-MUP broth: addition of lactose, phenolphthalein diphosphate, trimethyl aminoxide or methylumbelliferyl phosphate) certain detection of C. perfringens was possible. 10(2) cells/ml could be detected in 7 to 10 hours and 10(4) cells/ml in 4 to 6 hours. The detection method combines the good selectivity of the tried and tested TSC medium with the advantage of simultaneous confirmation via determination of the acid phosphatase.
