THE PRESENCE OF CORONULINE BARNACLES ON A SOUTHERN RIGHT WHALE EUBALAENA-AUSTRALIS

An adult female right whale photographed on the South African coast in September and October 1991 bearing coronuline barnacles on its head was the first such record for a southern right whale for at least 80 years. At least 72 per cent of the barnacles were lost within eight weeks of the first sighting. This record enables some speculation to be made on the migrations of the fight whale.
