We calculate the static electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon and the DELTA-baryon in the Skyrme model. The relation alpha = -2beta(dia) is found to be only approximately correct. Depending on the parameters used, the numerical data are roughly a factor 2-5 too large in comparison with the available empirical data. We discuss the large-N(C) limit and illustrate ordering ambiguities by considering a non-adiabatic contribution to the isovector magnetic moment of the nucleon.
