Editor's Note: An annotated bibliography of research in the teaching of English appears in the May and December issues of RTE, divided into six major categories of research interest: Curriculum, Language, Literature, Researcher Education, Teacher Education, and Writing. In general, the items mentioned in the bibliography are selected from articles or books published from July to December preceding the May issue, and from January to June preceding the December issue. Items are also drawn from the dissertation abstracts in DAI and from documents entered into ERIC during the period under review. We offer longer annotations of published research we judge to be of more than usual interest and group these items together in alphabetical order at the beginning of each major category of research covered by the bibliography. Other published and unpublished items in that area of research judged to be worthy of mention in the bibliography then follow. Some major categories are divided into sub-groups; in others, all remaining works are placed together. We invite comments about the bibliography from readers. We also ask readers to call our attention to published research studies we may have overlooked inadvertently or to notify us of newly published books containing research in the areas covered by the bibliography for possible inclusion in the review.
