A comparative evaluation of clinical efficacy of combination antihypertensive therapy consisting of ACE inhibitor enalapril with hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) and AT II receptor blocker losartan with hydrochlorothiazide in 59 patients with essential hypertension (EH) II-III stage was carried (35 men and 24 women). The patients' age was from 35 to 70 years. 37 patients received a combination enalapril with HCT, 22 - a combination of losartan with HCT in individually selected doses for 1 year. It was found that combination therapy with ACEI and ARB with a diuretic was well tolerated and resulted in normalization of blood pressure during the day, improves neurohumoral regulation of cardiovascular functioning and promotes the normalization of most biochemical parameters, however, some identified features will allow a more differentiated approach to the appointment of treatment and improve prognosis.
