COURSE OF POROSITY IN LAYERED BEDS OF SPHERICAL-PARTICLES

Measurements have been carried out of the area porosity in layered beds of spheres. The arrangements with a layer of smaller particles on larger ones have always shown a characteristic local decrease of porosity, this decrease being the more marked the larger the disparity of sphere diameters. Excess interfacial pressure drop of layered beds of spheres have been defined, computationally determined from porosity data.
