Sensitive and specific ELISA method was used to determine changes in serum DNA concentration in rats at hours 6 and 9 and on the days 1, 3, 7, 10, 15 and 30 after single whole body gamma irradiation with the dose 8 Gy. Changes in DNA concentration in serum were determined also on the day 10 after irradiation with the doses 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 Gy. Presented results indicate the pattern of changes in serum DNA concentration is characterized by initial decrease, typical also for number of leucocytes, followed by statistically significant increase in DNA concentration on the day 10 and in later periods of time, respectively. These data confirmed, in principle, our previous findings on changes in DNA concentration in rat blood plasma after single dose x-ray irradiation assessed by fluorimetric method with ethidium bromide.
