摘要：
The role of William Speirs Bruce as progenitor, inspiration, and leader of the Scottish National Antarctic Expedition 1902-1904 is examined with reference to original documents and the recently published log of the Scotia. The expedition is viewed as one of the most successful in the Heroic Period of Polar exploration.
